Aim: The ‘liturgical formation’ of the clergy and laity of the Diocese

Main Objectives:

  • Arrange training in the use of new forms of service (as well as fresh ways of using old services).
  • Ensure that Clergy, Readers, and other lay people are kept informed of new developments in liturgy.
  • Assist in writing and drawing up new liturgies for Diocesan and other special occasions.
  • Encourage sharing of information and examples of good practice.
  • Offer advice and guidance to parishes and individuals.

Key Target: (as submitted to the Diocesan Plan 2000)

  • To provide opportunities for all Clergy, Readers and other leaders of worship to be informed, trained and equipped to facilitate the implementation of Common Worship throughout the Diocese by December 2001

Strategy:

1 Training

  • Arrange ‘own-brand’ training events on Common Worship services etc (for Clergy, Readers, Lay Worship Teams)
  • Done in 2000: Baptism, Eucharist, Service of the Word; All –Age Worship, Funerals, Marriage; Visual Liturgy; Designing and Producing Orders of Service
    • Arrange ‘own-brand’ general training
  • Done in 2000: Worship as it was in the Beginning (with Graham Hendy from the Minister)
    • Encourage attendance at Midlands Praxis events and other liturgical training events
  • Done in 2000: Eucharistic Prayers and other themes to do with Common Worship
    • Participate in already existing programmes
  • Done in 2000:Led worship and workshops at Swanwick Conference, all on theme of Common Worship; Common Worship for Trainee Readers; Training for Churchwardens
  • 2 Informing the Diocese

    • ‘Southwell Liturgy’
  • Done in 2000: Two editions
    • Clergy Synod on Common Worship 12 July 2000
    • Service to Launch Common Worship in the Minister 18 November 2000, with copy of Common Worship for each parish
    • Posters for Training Events
  • Done in 2000: Posters sent direct to Readers as well as in Clergy Mailing
    • Presentations at Deanery Synods and to individual parishes and other bodies
  • Various done in 2000 by different members of the Diocesan Liturgical Committee
    • Articles in Diocesan Newspaper SEE
  • Done in 2000: Main Feature on Common Worship in November
